I probably can't add what's already been said. True local staple. Come early, be patient and have plenty of cash. You really can't go won't with whatever you want on the menu, but never leave without at least a dozen fresh tortillas for the road. I do recommend eating your food at the restaurant to get that fresh off the fryer crisp. There is typically more than enough seating options, so don't be intimidated by the line. Also, make sure you try other establishments around Barrio Logan. There are plenty of great options, especially for an after work happy hour.

This is a gem of San Diego authentic Mexican food. Hours Monday-Friday 8:30am-3pm Saturday busiest day They sell menudo blanco it sells out that day . 6:30am-3pm Me personally come right when they open no wait . Parking is horrible good luck finding a spot but trust me it's worth it . Also quarto milpa has been featured in many shows a landmark for Mexican food Cash only .... This place is wonderful like I mentioned, the secret is come here before lunchtime. To avoid the big line on Saturday come at 6:30 grab your food eat later or wait in the infinity line. Very friendly, staff like I mention on my post I been a customer for over 30years my father brought here as kid , he comes here every Saturday . Tables are clean when you're done eating you leave you your plates they pick it up, when I dine in I always leave tip but it's not required .

First time in San Diego and this GEM was suggested..! The food is fresh and most is made to order. Talk about eyes bigger than my stomach. The rice, beans con chorizo with a tamale is a meal all on its own!

So I have been coming to this restaurant since my father first brought me here in the 60's and no matter where I lived, when I returned to San Diego for Xmas or a visit, a stop at Las Cuatro Milpas was always a must. I normally buy a couple tacos de pollo or puerco and a chorizo con huevo. This morning I stopped by and picked up some food to go and to my surprise when I started in on my tacos, I realized they were now mixing potato with my chicken, apparently as a filler and they raised the price from $3.50 to $4.50 per taco. The price increase is tolerable, but using potato in my taco as filler is unacceptable. I will try the pork on my next visit to see if they are doing the same with those tacos and post an update. I am a little sad as I knew the original folks who ran the place as my Dad grew up in the Logan Heights Barrio and the food had not changed in the over 80 years they have been in operation and why the line is always long.

Simple menu, but delicious and authentic mexican food. Definitely worth enduring the long wait. Prices are also very reasonable. I went with a friend and we spent less than $20 and even had leftovers.

I'm admittedly not well versed enough in all the regions of Mexican cuisine to know where the unique style of rice and beans prepared here hails from. The rice was almost of a porridge texture, served in a soupy pinto bean stew, with onion, cilantro, and lemon available as garnishes. What an incredible breakfast that is more an experience for your soul. The tortillas are equally famous here, and have a slightly glutinous bite to them. Be careful of the chili oil, it has the color of the sweeter Szechuan chili oils I'm used to but this one packs some real heat.

Wow. I have not had my socks knocked off my feet and swept away by a food experience in a long time...... This place did just that. We had no plans to eat here, and I had never heard of it. We had to drop off someone down town and at 8:00 am, we started driving down the road and saw a line out of this hole in the wall. We flipped around, found parking, and waited in line, not knowing what we were waiting for. As we approached the counter where you can see a large stove and a few Mexican woman hand rolling tacos and frying them with very large pots on the burners, I knew this place was special. I ordered a few things that I saw other people order. Chorizo con huevo One rolled taco And one tamale I put the toppings on my chorizo con huevo, onions cilantro and lemon! As I sat down in the kitchen with a few women laughing and hand rolling tortillas. I took my first bite and was blown away with the comforting and deep flavor I was experiencing. I could describe it as the best chili/soup/stew/beans/ I have ever had, but I feel like that does it injustice- it was it is, amazingly comforting and so delicious! A must stop place for anyone looking for old style authentic Mexican food
